Why CPR Training Is Beneficial And Where To Get Proper Training

Education & Development Blog

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, has been proven to be the best way to help a person in sudden cardiac arrest, and potentially keep them alive until help arrives. CPR is not a difficult skill to learn, and the training is easy to get, with some organizations offering free CPR training to anyone that wants to learn it.

How CPR Works

The concept behind CPR is very basic. When a person has a cardiac arrest, their heart may stop or be in a rhythm that will not sustain proper blood flow throughout the body. Because oxygen is not getting to the brain, without intervention, they will eventually die.

CPR training teaches you to manually pump the blood through the person's body through chest compressions and oxygenate the blood through rescue breathing. The person doing CPR is essentially taking over for the heart until medical professionals get there to give medications and treatments that will help correct the problem and get the heart working again.

CPR is effective at doubling or sometimes tripling the chance of survival for someone having a sudden cardiac arrest when done immediately after the arrest. The more people who have CPR training, the greater the chances are that someone nearby will see a cardiac arrest situation and be able to respond quickly to provide help.

CPR Training

While some people are intimidated by the idea of CPR training, it is a skill that you can learn in a couple of class sessions and can have a huge impact on those around you. Most classes spend some time going over the reasons for CPR, the technique you should use, and when you should act.

After the classroom training, the instructor will set up teams to practice the skills on specifically designed mannequins that simulate a person in arrest. The hands-on portion of the class often is the hardest part for anyone apprehensive about the training, but it is vital to remember that this is the time for you to get a feel for the skill and for the instructor to show you how to effectively do CPR.

At the end of the class, you will receive a card showing you completed the training successfully and can perform CPR properly. There are several basic components to CPR, and if you can learn where to place your hands for effective compressions, how to give good rescue breaths, and how to position the victim during CPR, you may be that one person in the room that can help. Your training could save the life of a family member, coworker, or random stranger that has a sudden cardiac arrest with no signs before the event.

Every Child Has Unlimited Academic Potential

I have been a volunteer tutor for over a decade now, and the only thing I dislike about it is the fact that I simply don't have the ability to help every child in the nation who is struggling in the classroom! During my time tutoring and working with many children, I have learned a lot about why children struggle in class and how to overcome those struggles. To help children and parents who I cannot tutor in person, I decided to create a blog to share my tips with parents whose children are not excelling in school. I first want to debunk the myth that the grades a children receives in class are solely dependent on their IQs. Every child truly has unlimited academic potential!
